One more thing...here's a video of the ending of the fireworks finale.  Enjoy!

Hey everyone, sorry it's been so long since I've posted.  But now, I have a little time because I'm done with most of my summer classes.  I still have one online class that goes until August.  So let me tell what life in Minneapolis is like and what my classes are all about.

I'll show you what I've been up to with some pictures...

Well the first thing I did when I arrived in Minneapolis (besides go back to bed) was to go see the Tigers play the Twins at Target Field.  It was a good game!  Tigers were behind for most of it, but late in the game, got a home run and took the lead!  Woohoo, go Tigers!

Some other things I've done here in Minneapolis include shopping at the Mall of America, Sea Life Aquarium, Como Zoo, and the Gay Pride Parade.  I have yet to see the infamous Cherry and the Spoon.

One of theses guys was rescued from the flooding at the Lake Superior Zoo in Duluth.

Most of my time though, has been spent at school.  So, here are some links to some videos we watched in some of my classes.  It's pretty interesting stuff!

Willowbrook - Does anyone remember this?  This was a school in New York were many people sent their children with disabilities to.  This journalism work was the start for Geraldo Rivera.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_sYn8DnlH4&feature=related

The Color of Fear - This movie is a group of men talking about culture issues.  It is kind of old, early 90s I think.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Rbfh5oM3EQ

Refrigerator Mothers - I can't believe this even happened in our history.  Mothers who had children with autism were accused of "causing" it because they were so "cold" to their children.  Really disturbing.  Here's a link to the whole documentary.  http://www.snagfilms.com/films/title/refrigerator_mothers

FAT City - Really good for teachers.  Talks about teaching students who have a learning disability.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6G9--hUQDwY  Watch other videos of Rick Lavoie.  He's pretty entertaining.

4th of July

Spent the fourth here in the city.  It was also mine and Chris' anniversary.  We sure picked a fun day for an anniversary!

Breakfast Chris made me!

Spent the afternoon at the beach.  Lifeguard in a festive speedo!!

We had dinner at The Old Spaghetti Factory.  It was pretty sweet!!  Look at the fancy chairs we got!

Flowers that Chris gave me.  Also, check out the difference between my desk and Chris' desk...

Chris...nice and clean.

That's what I've been up to.  This weekend we have some friends visiting, Jason and Saundra.  We're going to Chris' uncle's birthday celebration thing at a beach tomorrow.  Then, on Sunday, we're going to Warped Tour to see some bands.  Should be a pretty fun weekend!  I'll be heading home on Tuesday the 10th.

Goodnight for now!

Happy Easter!!  I apologize for the lack of posts.  I've been pretty busy lately.  So here are a few updates...

- About 3-4 weeks ago now, Chris was here visiting.  We had a great time!  It was so nice to have him here.  Not to mention taking off the whole week from work was nice.  I really enjoyed showing him around Wrangell and showing him bits of my life here.  Wish he could have stayed longer than a week though.

- Right after Chris left I started helping out with a lifeguarding course being offered at the pool where I work.  I'm a Lifeguard Instructor, so I volunteered to help out with the classes.  It was very time consuming and I had a few very long days.  But, it was a great experience to be able to teach the classes.  There were two other instructors there with me but they had never taught a class before.  I'm not really one to talk though since I've only taught one (at camp).  Now, with this experience, I'd feel more comfortable doing it again, even if it were by myself.  I think I'd be able to get through it.  These lifeguarding classes just ended last week.

- This past week I've been battling a sickness.  Just a chest cold, but it was really not fun.  I've still got a nasty cough and a snot machine in my nose.  Other than that, I think I'm getting better.  I had to cancel zumba last week because of it.  I would have taken some sick days at work but there were some high school qualifying tests going on at the school and I needed to be there to proctor some tests.  Also what really sucked was spending $22 for some DayQuil and NyQuil.  $22!!!

- Easter day!  This morning Heather and I provided music in church.  We played music for the whole service, hymn and the liturgy.  It was a blast!  I played the guitar (Ryan's guitar) and Heather played an African hand drum.  I uploaded some videos from the service to YouTube.  Here are some....

After church today, Brittany and I went over to Ryan and Heather's place for an Easter lunch/dinner.  It was super yummy.  Ryan made a ham and we had sweet potatoes, salad, rolls, and, of course, mandarin salad!  That was my contribution.  And for a dessert, we had some strawberry shortcake.

While the ham was cooking the four of us went for a little walk down the shoreline at a place called Pat's Landing.  It was really beautiful.  It was a clear sky with the sun shining.  I was a little upset Ryan and Heather hadn't shown me this place earlier!  Anyways, I decided to put my feet in the water for a little bit.  I was very cold but it seemed just like Lake Superior to me!  Also, I decided to take a little taste of the salty ocean water.  I took a little sip out of my hand and boy, it was salty and gross.  No, I did not drink it either.  I spit it out.  My first taste of ocean water!  Walking back along the shore line, the tide was coming in and was closing in on us.  But we made it safely back to the car.

- One final story.  Here is my own little Easter miracle.  I thought I had lost my cross necklace my father had given me for my graduation from NMU.  I used to wear it nearly everyday, but when I moved here to Wrangell, I couldn't find where I had packed it.  Once I initially looked for it and couldn't find it in my stuff here, I thought I had left it at my mom's house.  But at Christmas time, I couldn't find it there either.  So every now and then I would look for the necklace in my stuff here hoping to find it.  BUT, the night before Easter, I was trying to pick out an outfit to wear to church and grabbed a necklace out of my jewelry box and the cross necklace was tangled up with that necklace!  I was so happy to have found it!  I couldn't believe it!  It made my day :)

Pretty soon my mom will be here visiting Wrangell for the Stikine River Birding Festival!  I suppose she's coming to see me also....  The birds are coming!  Today I saw some robins, some eagles, a herring, some loons, and some other birds I wasn't sure were.  I think some ducks.  I can't wait to have her here!!!  Hope this blog entry got you all caught up on my life and that you enjoyed it!

Hello!  Mainly I just wanted to share my breakfast pie I made this morning to make you all jealous.  Sooo here it is!

Sunday, January 15, 2012

Well, It's been a pretty nice day so far (expect for that packer loss today).  I woke up this morning from a bad dream but the sun was out and shining which was comforting.  I sat in bed and watched an episode of Parenthood while I waited for Brittany to wake up (I don't want to wake her up to go out in the living room).  That show is pretty darn good.  So when Brittany woke up I started washing the dishes.  While I was washing them I heard a cat meowing at the front door.  It's the land lady's cat, but her and her family are gone for a few weeks.  A friend of the family is staying in their house but maybe he doesn't know the cat got out?  Here's what I saw looking out the door.

He looked so cold and sad!  I opened a can of tuna and put some yogurt with it and gave it to him outside.  He still wouldn't go away though. Brittany said I couldn't let him in.  Buuuuut, she left for church and I let him in anyways (yes I did tell her that I let him in when she got back).  He is a sweet heart.  He came inside, walked around for a bit then settled down in the chair and took a nap.  It was hard kicking him back outside, but I put a box out there with a towel just in case he comes back.

So, since I opened some tuna I made some tuna salad.  AND THEN, I made some homemade pizza rolls and oreo pudding (the oreo pudding came in handy after the packer loss...I ate a lot of it to drown my sorrows).

Now the rest of my plans for the day include watching Downton Abbey tonight and skyping with Chris!!!  I haven't been able to skype with Chris for the past few days so that'll be nice to see his face again!

This week at school is exam week and I'm not quite sure what my role is for that.  I know I'll be helping Heather grade some papers (is it nerdy I'm excited to do that?).  Hopefully this week will go by fast!

Alright, second blog update for the week!

Being back at work has been alright. There's been a couple issues but nothing I can't handle. I was actual surprised to see how many people said they missed me while I was gone last week (I took some extra days off). It is kind of nice to hear that. Next week is semester exams for the students so, I'm not sure what my schedule will be or what my role is during all that. Guess I'll find out!

So, I've become a little bit addicted to the game fruit ninja. I don't know what it is about that game, but I like it. My high score is 471. I've been trying for a while now to break 500 but hasn't happened yet. I'll be sure to let you all know when that does happen.

I'm excited for the packer's game this weekend. I haven't been rid interested in football in the past, but I think it reminds me of home (mom) and that's why I like it so much. Plus, here in wrangell, games start at like 9 in the morning on Sundays. It's kind of nice waking up to some football.

Well, since I'm writing this on my phone I have my photos to share - photos from my break.

Wooo new year!!  My apologies for the lack of blog updates.  So here's a short entry to get updated.

I just got back to Wrangell early this morning.  I have been on vacation for the past three weeks and had a great time with all my family and friends.  Some highlights: hanging out with Lacey in Texas, Christmas with the family, FLLC staff reunion, CHRIS, and playing with Knoxypoo.  I had such a good time that I'm actually pretty sad that I had to leave everyone.  Hopefully I can figure some future plans out and be closer to those that I love.

So I finally came up with a few New Year's Resolutions.

1. Donate to a different charity every month (repeat of last year's, hopefully I'll last longer than three months)
2. Eat more fruits and vegetables.
3. Cook more meals (limit the ramen and mac n' cheese)
4. Swim the Teal Lake this summer
5. See Gavin Degraw in concert.
6. Read more

We'll see how these go - I'll keep you updated.  Well it's 7:00 AK time right now and 11:00 Eastern time, which is what I've been used to the past couple of weeks.  Let's see if I can stay up tonight to watch the second season of Downton Abbey!
