Winter Camping

I am on the verge of going on one of the most difficult and exciting experiences I have had. On the 30th I am heading out into the snowy and cold woods for a winter camping course. We'll be camping outside, in snow shelters, for eight days. I'll be gone for New Years, but hopefully it'll be worth it. I'm very nervous about losing fingers and toes to frostbite. I'm hoping to learn a lot, about winter camping and also about listening to my body and it's needs. This will be a fun yet hard course.

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Oh boy! It's Thanksgiving tomorrow!! I love Thanksgiving. It's probably my most favorite Holiday. MMMM the food is delicious and having all the family around is wonderful. Oooohhh and the shopping!! SO FUN!!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!

Sunday, November 22, 2009

Happy Sunday everyone! Today has been a good day, minus harry jumping up on my bed like a crazy dog and attacking my face this moring. We sang some good songs in church this morning. "Lift high the cross, the love of Christ proclaim. Till all the world adore, His sacred name." Love that song. And i LOVE to sing. I'm liking it more and more everyday. Singing in the car while I drive is probably one of my most favorite things to do.

Also, this morning at church, I mentioned to Pastor Dave that I was interested in going on the Colombia mission trip. I want to go sooooo bad. I've wanted to go on a mission trip for so long, but never had the chance to. The cost is around $1500 per person though...not sure if I'll have that much money. But, maybe some St. Mark's folks will be willing to help me? That would be wonderful.

I just got back from two meetings. One was for my Interp class, and the other was for my Eval/Research class. Neither one was very productive. This is exactly why I'm not a fan of group work. I have a presentation with my group on the monday after thanksgiving for my eval/research class, and also a presentation on the tuesday after thanksgiving with my group for my Interp class. That week will not be fun. But it's only one more week, and then finals, and then done!! It goes by so fast, yet not fast enough.

I am super excited for Thanksgiving. I think it's probably my favorite holiday. I LOVE green bean caserole. We're going out to my aunt's for dinner, then afterwards I'm going out to my dad's to roast some pecans and maybe some almonds. MMMM MMMMMMM. Can't wait. Also, the shopping. I love the shopping the day after. Hopefully there will be some good sales!! I kind of hope the Flip camera will have a good deal. I want one of those.

I've been preparing for my WEA (Wilderness Education Association) Stewardship Winter Camping Course. We will be camping for nine days in the snow! I'm a little nervous, but also excited to experience something new. Maybe it'll give me some ideas for a book. (btw, I'm still working on stories to put up in here.)

So much is going on this semester. I'm glad it's keeping me busy. But I can't wait till our winter break when I can be doing things for me, and not for classes. When I can read a book I want to read, and not a text book. Can't wait. I'll keep you posted on what book I choose to read. Maybe the second Harry Potter book, maybe The Story of Edgar Sawtelle, or maybe I'll re-read Eclipse. So many choices, and so little time.

Why do I procrastinate? I know I should be getting homework done, but I just don't do it. Why?!? What is wrong with me? This is so frustrating. I need to knock myself out of this habit. If I worked on my homework and did what I was supposed to do, then I might have time to work on other things like my stories, or actually reading for fun. But I procrastinate and never feel like I can do anything I want to do.

I need a new routine. Blah.

Oh, also Happy Veterans Day!! Thanks to all you've done for our country.
Hey world. I'm still alive. I have a renewed inpiration to start writing again. I'm taking a creative writing course next semester, so I thought I might polish up. I want to use this blog to post some stories I write. Hopefully, I won't just post one and then stop. I want to keep doing it. I have this "dream" to be a successful writer. I don't know if I'm good enough, but why not try.

I'm working on a story right now, on my lunch break at work. Not sure if I'll get it done today or not, but I WILL be posting it.

i have had a long past few days. my wilderness first responder course met thursday evening 4-9 PM then again on friday, 1-10 PM and saturday 10-4 PM. i am so exhausted. but i did learn a lot. there was a girl on thursday who actually passed out while the teacher was talking and she fell backwards. i thought it was staged and we were supposed to take care of her or something, but it was real. and little scary too. but she was fine. i guess it's happened to her before....low blood sugar or something. it was pretty fun too yesterday and today cause we did scenarios and had volunteers out in the woods and a group of us would find them and have to treat them and get them out. for example, one scenario my group of three came up to a guy who "broke his leg and dislocated his arm." so we had to get him onto a sleeping pad so he was off the snow and then splinted his leg and arm and wraped him in a tarp. today was a little more frustrating cause our groups were bigger so there were a lot of people talking and telling other people what to do. i don't need to be a leader, and i don't mind being a follower, but it's difficult when i disagree with what the "leader" is doing. people take waaaay to long to get the patient off the snow and onto a pad. i just want to take over sometimes, but there's too many people. our mock rescue is in too week on the 9th. i'm a little nervous about that. i hope it goes well.

i got to see natalie today. she's adorable. and she's soooo smart too. i asked her to hand me the remote at the end of my bed and she did!! mom took a cute video of her jumping on the bed too. here's the link, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DQWxyHtsKUs

i signed up for classes next fall. i am taking Teaching of Canoeing, Eval/Research in Leisure Services, Interp I Foundation/Guided Services, Leisure Through the Ages, and Hiking. I'm pretty excited about these classes. i hear the Interp class is kind of hard. and i think the eval/research one will be difficult too. but hopefully it will all be good. erika might take the hiking class with me which would be awesome.

next weekend i'm going to ewen to see john!! i miss him already. i can't wait for next fall also because he will be here!!! that's very exciting. i hope he'll enjoy nmu. i know i'll enjoy having him closer, instead of 2 hours away.

ok, that's it. i think i shall make some tea, watch twilight and then go to bed. goodnight all.

Right now i'm watching That 70's Show. I'm on disc two. I'm trying to watch it from beginning to end. I've been watching episodes whenever they're on tv and i just thought watching the whole series through would be cool. I don't think i've seen every episode. It's sooo funny, i like it a lot. Lacey has seasons 1-5 so this should last me a while.

Also I've started reading the first Harry Potter book. I don't really know why. It's pretty good though. I'm about half way through. I think i'll continue and try to read the rest of the series.

I've recently declared english for a minor. I discovered that i only need to take one more 300 level english class for a minor. So, i'll either take it next fall or winter 2010. I want to take a writing class, but we'll see. I think we can sign up for fall classes in a week or two. Why is signing up for classes always a little exciting? That's weird.

So, I'm not sure if anyone but lacey is reading this but if someone else is, my mom has got me started on twitter.com. It's a pretty cool site. Kind of like facebook, but it's mostly just updating your status throughout the day on what you're doing. It's pretty cool. So, you should join. You can find me if you search my nmu email address. I'm following a "twitter" called TheOfficeQuotes, and they write funny office quotes on there frequently. Here's one, "You hear stories about Dunder Mifflin in the 80's, before everybody knew how bad cocaine was. Gyah... man, did they move paper!" - M. Scott. I'm a fan of the office. That's a great show.

Well, i guess that's it. I'm probably going to go take a shower, figure out my sunday school lesson for tomorrow, then watch The Jane Austen Book Club....such a cute movie.

Goodnight.

PS. I just watched an episode of That 70's Show, and Mitch Hedberg was in it. He was the worker at the restaurant hang out, Frank. Does he have a recurring role? Hmm, i wonder.

PSS. Also, did you know That 70's Show started in 1998?!!? That seems like sooo long ago, but it doesn't seem like it started that long ago. Weird.

so i think i have the flu or something. i've had a sore throat for a couple days now and this morning i threw up after eating some coco puffs. i was outside taking a picture of john's car and then i threw up on the nice white snow. it tasted kind of chocolatey so it wasn't that bad. but anyways, i decided to stay in ewen one more day instead of driving home today. which is fine with me!

i can't believe what happened on the bachelor last night. i was soooo happy when he chose mellisa but then during the "after the final rose" episode HE BROKE UP WITH HER ON TV!!! and then proceeds to ask molly out!!! what the hell. stupid jerk.

well i'm going to take a nap, and maybe i'll feel a little bit better. goodnight.

wow lacey, that picture is baaaaddd. it looks like you have a tumor on your eye.

anyways, i'm in ewen this weekend. i got here on friday a little before four. i forgot to call mom and tell her i made it safe...oops. John's mom is at a Be an Outdoors Woman retreat at Bay Cliff this weekend. She comes back today, so maybe she'll have some stories about it. This weekend is been pretty nice. It's good to be on spring break, but i am a little sad i'm not visiting lacey out in Colorado. It would have been fun to see what she's been up to. But, hopefully in May i'll be able to go out there to visit.

Sometimes it's hard to write in here cause i don't really do much. Last week i got my new snowshoes in the mail. Mom and i took the dogs for a walk and i got to use them. Hopefully i will get outside more now that i have those. I just bought a bikini online :/ I think i'm going to hang it on my wall to remind me to work out more...haha. I have recently hit 150 lbs. Not good. I should lose some weight...but i'm soooo lazy. This is going to be rough.

This weekend on Xbox 360, if you play Call of Duty 4 you get doubled points when you kill someone. Normally every person you kill would be ten points, but this weekend it's 20 points. I feel a little bad cause i know john wants to play it like all day, but he won't cause i'm here. I played and had an assist with killing someone and i got 4 points, and then the rest of the time i died a bunch of times :(

Last night john and i watched Alone in the Wilderness on PBS. It was pretty interesting. That guy is so talented the way he could just build all that stuff. Sometimes i wish i could just live out in the middle of the woods and live off the land. That would be sweet. No bills to pay. It'd be kinda lonely though. I hope dad has the book, cause i want to borrow it.

Well, john and i are going to watch Moulin Rouge now (he actually likes it!!!!) I love this movie :) I'll try to write in here more often.

These are my new snowshoes!!!! Cute hey?!?

so, right now i'm in a class right now. it goes from 2:00 till 3:40 and the prof is letting us have a "break" right now, but we've been on a break for 20 minutes now, and i think she left the room...not sure where she is. ooohh, there she is. kind of annoying.

Thursday, January 15, 2009

haha, this is mom taking the dogs on a walk and sliding down the snow covered stairway...

Saturday, January 10, 2009

hahahahha

haha, i think monroe looks so much like brian from family guy in this one!!

hahahha....just in case you forgot.

i'm in ewen right now with john :) i got here yesterday around noon. john had a doctor's appointment so he didn't go to school. he was getting some blood work done, to see if there was something wrong that was making him tired all the time....or something. it was also his brother's birthday yesterday. eli turned 10. it was actually pretty cool how we all stood around the table with the cake in the center and sang happy birthday to him. the candles were sparking like sparklers on the fourth of july. it was cool. we were supposed to all go see a movie in ironwood to celebrate his birthday but i guess ironwood is having some plumming issues and the streets are a little flooded. so we couldn't go :( eli was pretty upset about that but, his dad got him a gun for his birthday and he cheered up after that.

john spent the morning playing a video game called Fallout 3 while i read my book Breaking Dawn. it was really quite enjoyable. i only have about 250 more pages to go :/ at least it's over half way!! it's getting a little ridiculous. i can't wait for it to be over and i can talk about it with kelley and erika when she's done reading them.

lacey: i was able to watch the game last night. i am soooooo jealous. that was a good game. i just imagined you and matt jumping up and down in excitment...cause that's what i would've been doing if i were there. however, i did not see you on the tv. they hardly showed any fans in the crowd. everytime they had a second they showed an interview they had with chauncey before the game. hope you enjoyed it! miss you.

Thursday, January 8, 2009

hey hey it's 2009! woo hoo! i think this will be a good year. i plan to work at camp again this summer and john's coming to nmu in the fall. the only bad thing is that lacey won't be here for the majority of the year. i do miss her.

i just got back from erika's. we're a little lame cause i went over to her apartment just so we could read our twilight books together. she's on the third one and i'm on the fourth. they're soooo good. well, not good good, just good to the point where i can't stop reading them cause i want to know what's going to happen. not good because it's spectacular writing, cause it's not. they're enjoyable, that's all. lacey, you should really read them. erika and i were talking about throwing a Twilight party!! haha, wouldn't that be fun. idk what we'd do for it, but it'd be fun.

i'm going to ewen this weekend!! yay!! i hope i'll get to watch the piston's game to see if lacey's on the tv. (if i don't i'm sorry). i hope they win. it should be a good game. i also hope chauncy does well. lacey, when they anounce his name you should do the chaaauuuuunnncccyyyy ba ba ba billlupppppsss thing. hahahhaha that'd be funny.

i just saw a tv ad for a dirty dancing workout dvd. it looks soooo funny. who knows, maybe i'll get that on netflix sometime.

sooo, i think i know who's been putting the juvenile books on the sorting cart wrong....chris. cause on tuesday it was just me, katherine, chris, and keith and i had just organized them and then a couple hours later i brought more over there and they were out of order!!!! seriously, what is so difficult about organizing the juvenile books...man. maybe it was katherine, but i was complaining to her and she was complaining right back, so i don't think it was her. and keith was around doing something all day. so i think it was chris. he gets on my nerves. he's weird. but i suppose he's alright. the other day someone returned their books with a TON of sticky notes in them...like a ton, about 20 or so. and he said, "whoever did this deserves to be shot." hahaha, idk why i thought that was so funny.

ok well, hope this was enough for you lacey. love you. gonna go read some more vampire love books.
