Time for an update!
Looking forward to some football today! Not sure who I should cheer for, Packers or Lions. I'll probably go for the Packers since they're behind, but it's so exciting that the Lions are number 1 in the NFC North! I'll be happy with whoever wins :)
Student teaching has been going really well! I really like the school that I'm at, and I've enjoyed the elementary setting more than I thought I would. Those students are just sooo darn cute! Some 4th graders of mine were singing Ylvis's The Fox song and I just wanted to start singing along with them! However, I needed to teach :(
On friday, my cooperating teacher had a meeting so she had a substitute teacher for the morning. She was a nice lady, but since I knew what was going on with the different groups, I did the teaching. It was cool to be the lead teacher the whole day. My only complaint from friday was when my students joined a general education classroom to observe some crayfish in the science lab. The substitute walked around and helped other students, so I was left alone to supervise my students. There was only six of them, so it wasn't that bad. However, at one point I looked over at the boys and they had the crayfish out of the bin walking on the table! They were not supposed to do that. The science lab teacher came to the rescue, so it was all good! (I did not want to touch the crayfish!)
I only have a week and a half left at this school. Parent-teacher conferences are october 15-16, and then I'm done there. There's been a change with my second placement. I won't be at Chris's school :( There's a girl in my program doing her student teaching there right now (with the teacher I would have been with) and her experience there is not going so well. I guess the teacher hasn't been a great mentor. So, now I will be going to Roosevelt High School in south Minneapolis. Chris has heard a lot of good things about this school from some of his classes, so I'm pretty excited to go there. I'm still really bummed that Chris and I won't be at the same school though!
I was really looking forward to car pooling with Chris also because my Jeep has been leaking transmission fluid. It's a pretty slow leak, and I've been able to add fluid every now and then, so it's been fine so far. I've looked online to see if this is an easy fix. If it's a seal problem, then the transmission needs to be taken out...not cheap. Sooooo, now I'm not sure what to do. I guess it's a good thing transmission fluid isn't that expensive. Anyone know how well products like Trans-X works to fix leaks?
I'll end this post with a new favorite commercial of mine. It's the from Geico. Hahahaha it's hilarious.

Week two of student teaching is finished. I'm going to start taking over some teaching this coming week. So far, I've just been helping out in the classroom and getting to know the kids and how things work at the school. I'll be teaching writing to some 4th graders and I'll be teaching a Kindergardener basic skills. I'll start doing more teaching as I go.
I've never worked in an elementary school, but I really like it! The kids that I work with are pretty great. No major problems. Some of them are labeled EBD but I haven't seen much behavior problems. I just had my student teaching seminar this week, so that was nice to hear other people's student teaching experiences. We also talked about the goals/competencies that I need to complete for student teaching to get my license. There's actually quite a lot of them and I'm nervous about doing them all in one semester. But, I think it's do-able, so no worries :) Goals/competencies include academic interventions in reading, writing, math, and spelling, administering an assessment on a student with LD, and writing an IEP for that student. All this stuff I did in my classes, so now it's just time to put it all to use!
Just this morning I met my friend Becky (also doing her student teaching) for breakfast. We went to Hell's Kitchen in downtown Minneapolis. It was super delicious! I had some lemon ricotta hotcakes. I didn't even need the maple syrup; they had plenty of flavor.
Now I'm back home and Chris and I just finished watching the Gopher game on the Big Ten Network. Gophers won! They're looking pretty good! They won their first three games. We'll see how they do when they play some really good teams. Tomorrow, I won't be able to watch the Packer game or the Lions game :( Maybe I can find it online somewhere.
Not much else planned this weekend. We'll be going to the dog park later this afternoon before it starts to rain.

First Day of Student Teaching
I started my student teaching today! I'll be at this school for about 6 weeks, I think. Today went well. Since the students are just starting school, it will be a couple days until the special ed services start happening. My cooperating teacher works in a resource room, so there will be different groups of students we will work with. There will be a a couple reading groups, a writing group, and a math group. I'm pretty excited to meet the kids and start working with them!
I bought a new laptop last friday! My toshiba was getting really annoying, so it's nice to have this new one. It's a MacBook Pro and very nice. Maybe I'll be a little more motivated to write in this blog with my new computer!
I hope to keep this updated while I'm student teaching....but no promises!

Busy Week
Well, about one more week now until my summer classes start. These past few weeks I've been working at the map library on campus, but this coming week, I am doing a little traveling.
First stop tomorrow is Scott and Erika's house. Chris, Knox, and I will spend the night at their house (super excited to see the house they just bought!"). It'll be really nice to catch up with them.
Second stop will be at Aunt Mia's house Sunday morning for Daryl's graduation. Woohoo!! It's also been a really long time since I've seen them! It'll be nice for Chris to meet them also. We'll be camping at a campground near Aunt Mia's house Sunday night and then it's time to hit the road again.
Third stop will be Crivitz, WI. Mainly I'm just dropping Chris off at his parent's house, but I might stay to visit if there are people home. They will probably be working though.
Fourth stop...Marquette! Last time I was in Marquette was mid-march, so hopefully it is really green now! Plans for when I'm home include: hanging out with the kiddos, seeing The Great Gatsby with Mom, hanging out with Casey (and making her wrap my bridal shower gift), meeting up with Ellen, dentist appointment, Lindsey's bridal shower, and going to Messiah for church Sunday morning.
I'll leaving Marquette Sunday after church and then head back to Crivitz to pick up Chris. I'll probably stay there for lunch or something before we hit the road to head back to Minneapolis.
One more thing...
After Chris's Buick was stolen, he started driving his Aunt's vehicle (and she bought a new one). But now, the Buick was found by the police and Chris plans on selling it (maybe just for parts). He gave back his aunt's vehicle so she can sell it (for more than what Chris could afford) and now Chris bought a 1994 Ford Tempo. Here's a picture...
