Week two of student teaching is finished.  I'm going to start taking over some teaching this coming week.  So far, I've just been helping out in the classroom and getting to know the kids and how things work at the school.  I'll be teaching writing to some 4th graders and I'll be teaching a Kindergardener basic skills.  I'll start doing more teaching as I go.

I've never worked in an elementary school, but I really like it!  The kids that I work with are pretty great.  No major problems.  Some of them are labeled EBD but I haven't seen much behavior problems.  I just had my student teaching seminar this week, so that was nice to hear other people's student teaching experiences.    We also talked about the goals/competencies that I need to complete for student teaching to get my license.  There's actually quite a lot of them and I'm nervous about doing them all in one semester.  But, I think it's do-able, so no worries :)  Goals/competencies include academic interventions in reading, writing, math, and spelling, administering an assessment on a student with LD, and writing an IEP for that student.  All this stuff I did in my classes, so now it's just time to put it all to use!

Just this morning I met my friend Becky (also doing her student teaching) for breakfast.  We went to Hell's Kitchen in downtown Minneapolis.  It was super delicious!  I had some lemon ricotta hotcakes.  I didn't even need the maple syrup; they had plenty of flavor.

Now I'm back home and Chris and I just finished watching the Gopher game on the Big Ten Network.  Gophers won!  They're looking pretty good!  They won their first three games.  We'll see how they do when they play some really good teams.  Tomorrow, I won't be able to watch the Packer game or the Lions game :(  Maybe I can find it online somewhere.

Not much else planned this weekend.  We'll be going to the dog park later this afternoon before it starts to rain.
